The Eastern Cape is bursting with colour now that Graham and Angie have teamed up to present dye kits, courses and related products.
A Warm Welcome to our Page
Calling all quilters, fibre artists, teachers and fashionistas: We know you will take pride and joy colouring your own cloths, from T-shirting to fat quarters. Create your own exclusive dye colours and textures.
Use Graham’s pure dyes for top quality, colourfast results. These fibre reactive 100% pure dyes are not premixed with chemicals and are therefore much more economical to use than over-the-counter premixed dyes. They will last and can be mixed and re-used to the last drop if working to our instructions. The colour ranges available will produce any colour you can desire – once you know how colour theory works.
This is our speciality:
teaching you how to create your own colours from the basic kits we supply.
With Graham’s knowledge (gathered over 61 years of working in the dyeing trade since the age of 9 as an apprentice learning natural dyes in Scotland!!) and Angie’s teaching experience (since 1983) and her book, (co-authored by Monique Day-Wilde) Simply Fabulous Fabric, you will open up to a feast of colour mixing and textural techniques, courses and classes. Learn how to dye a colour wheel range of fabrics; pastels, ombre and stack dyeing; lasagna (yes, lasagna!) dyeing; crossover colours in earth tones and a host of Shibori techniques, tritik and tie-dye patterns as well as faux indigo dyeing. Angie also teaches authentic indigo vat dyeing, silk ‘painting’/dyeing, batik (with beeswax and soya wax), painting, stamping, lino and screen printing with thickened dyes, breakdown printing, dyeing paper, threads, cotton yarns and cords as well as using alcohol dye inks on multi surfaces (scrapbookers take note!). And as if that isn’t enough, we teach you how to remove dye with various stripping and discharge techniques to create even more interest and surface patterns to doll up dull cloths.
Check out our class schedule for the rest of 2013
Graham has worked closely with the wool and textile industry over the years in the UK and Africa, dyeing wool and yarns for many businesses and will teach how to dye your own unique multicoloured skeins and related woollen products using his lovely range of acid wool dyes. Angie is an experienced teacher and fibre artist who has co-authored 9 books to date with Monique Day-Wilde, writes for Craftwise magazine and has presented craft demos on camera and TV.
With our combined experience of 91 years to date, you are in friendly, expert and confident hands.
So no excuse to be bland or bored – give us a call or write on our wall (facebook/Dyescape) and we’ll help you infuse more passion for colour.
